 Vegan! A dietary lifestyle we are hearing more often these days, especially in January. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to start a vegan diet? The requirements? The discipline? As we celebrate Veganuary throughout January at home at halls we also want to explore and provide tips on how meat eaters can transition to a vegan diet (If you want!). Perhaps it can be a challenge you can take on this new year? Or a temporary challenge to prove your friends wrong that yes, you can go a week without that fried chicken! Below we have listed 3 simple steps to help you transition into a vegan diet from a meat diet.

Stay committed

If this is a long-term decision perhaps for your health or for the environment, make a personal commitment that this is the lifestyle you choose to live. Remember you are not signing a contract here! You are simply acknowledging that this is a challenge/lifestyle you will take up for which ever reason you would like. Whether you wish to try it for a week, 2 weeks, 2 years or for the rest of your life, it’s entirely up to you, but a beneficial one none the less.

Research

The internet is amazing! There are so many different vegan meals you can watch and read online to help you get creative with your meals. Don’t be disheartened if a meal does not come out how you wanted it to, you can always adjust it to your taste preferences and try other recipes. There are so many health benefits to starting a healthy vegan diet so make sure you experiment, check out new recipes online and show your family and friends.

Plan your meals

To start off your new diet, consider planning out your food. If you are used to eating meat you may find that the source of your protein or iron came from meat, research and see other fruits and vegetables that are also high in protein or iron to supplement what you used to eat. Consider a food calendar, planning out the meals you are going to eat and the nutrients they also provide to your overall heath. In addition, you can consider subscribing to monthly meal boxes to gain inspiration and take learn the recipes to save money in the future.

Not all vegan food is healthy food! So, if you wish to start your diet hoping to gain a healthier lifestyle remember that vegan good can range from very healthy to junk food very quickly.
